TERREDORA IN THE FIELD: THE CHOICE OF AGRICULTURE 4.0 WITH ELAISIAN
Why agriculture 4.0 is becoming the new frontier of agribusiness? Agriculture 4.0 is a precision agriculture that involves the real-time use of data collected directly in the fields. The introduction of farming practices 4.0 allow to rationalize resources, maximizing environmental sustainability, since it avoids the excessive use of chemical products, preferring the early intervention on the vines at the first emergence of external attacks.. At Terredora we installed a weather station in 2010, in the vineyard surrounding the winery, in Montefusco (AV) to adopt a first control tool in the vineyard. Having carefully evaluated the benefits, and considering our important viticultural extension in hectares, with considerable distance between the plots, we chose, in 2022 to invest again in an even more sophisticated weather station and with the requirements of agriculture 4.0. This time, the station is located in the vineyard of Gesualdo (AV), or the farm estate at a wider distance from the winery (about 27 km).
The weather station is owned by the Roman company Elaisian, an innovative start-up founded in 2016, which combines technology and digitalization with agriculture, boasting today numerous awards – among the latest, the award to the founders, mentioned among the “talents under 30” from Forbes Italy for 2020.
Elaisian has created the Decision Support System (DSS) that prevents olive and vine diseases, able to optimize cultivation processes.
The Elaisian weather station is equipped with sensors with precision detection (1 time per hour measuring humidity, temperature, rain and dew point). With its support, we are able to prevent the cases of Oidium, Downy mildew, Botrytis and Tignoletta of the vine; we can, in fact, measure climate data up to 5 days, monitoring the progress of any pathologies, through predictive warnings, which also use satellite imaging.
